Thanks for your interest in volunteering at MAA!
Volunteers are vital to the museum and there are many different ways in which you can help.
Volunteering opportunities
Events Volunteer
Do you enjoy meeting people and working as part of a team? Are you interested in helping people deepen their enjoyment of archaeology and anthropology through inspiring activities and events? If so, we have the volunteering opportunity for you!
MAA runs free, drop-in events for families and adults throughout the year including during half-term holidays, the Cambridge Festival, Summer at the Museums, Twilight at the Museums and programmes for lifelong learners. We are looking for someone to help us provide the highest quality support for both families and adults who visit the Museum (including weekend and evening events).
Event Volunteers provide a friendly welcome to visitors and support our Education and Outreach team in their delivery of our exciting programmes.
For more information about this opportunity visit the University of Cambridge Museums' Volunteer Makers page>>
Welcome Talks Volunteer
Do you love learning and enjoy sharing passion with others? Then you might be interested in becoming one of our Welcome Talks Volunteers!
In late 2024 the Museum will be trialing new afternoon 10-minute talks for visitors, which will involve 4 short talks in different galleries and areas. Instead of a more formal guided tour they will allow visitors to join a short drop-in talk and find out a little more about the museum and its collections. Between each talk visitors will have time to explore the gallery further and then have the option to join the next. Training will be provided and talks may take place during the week or at the weekend.
If you would be interested in helping us deliver and evaluate these exciting new tours then head over to the University of Cambridge Museum's Volunteer Makers page>>
Front of House Volunteer
Do you enjoy meeting people from all over the world? Do you have some free time you’d like to put to good use and would like to help visitors get the most from their visit to the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology? If you can answer ‘yes’ to these questions, then we’d love to hear from you!
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is part of the University of Cambridge and we love involving volunteers in the work we do and want to give opportunities to as wide a range of people as possible. Our front of house volunteers bring a wealth of experience to the operation of the Museum and get involved for many different reasons- a love of archaeology and anthropology; to gain employability skills; for Duke of Edinburgh or CAS or for social contact. Volunteers work in the Museum galleries assisting with enhancing the visitor experience.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits are provided - as well as an MAA T-shirt, MAA book and lots of support and training.
The museum’s front of house volunteers provide a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors and support other members of staff in supervising the galleries. In addition to dealing with enquiries from visitors, they support colleagues with additional needs and perform various other roles.
