Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology

Shelley Angelie Saggar is the Research Assistant on the ‘Indigenous Futures’ project. Her PhD examines literary and filmic representations of the colonial museum, concentrating on texts by Indigenous writers from North America and Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Shelley’s research asks how literary methods might contribute to decolonial heritage practices within and beyond the museum. Her interests include critical Indigenous studies, (post)colonial literature, and Fourth Cinema. Alongside her scholarship, Shelley works with museums on a range of curatorial, research, and collections engagement initiatives. Her work has been published in the Journal of Postcolonial Writing and ART HX and she is the founder of The Decolonial Dictionary - a resource aimed at making postcolonial theory more accessible in museum contexts.
