Jan has a background in History and Archaeological Studies (Classical Archaeology, Pre- and Protohistory, Archaeometry).

Prior to joining the MAA Stores Move team, Jan worked as an assistant in the Museum for Classical Archaeology in the Art collections of the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, and a research assistant in the Didyma excavation project at the Martin-Luther-University in Halle. Most recently, Jan worked at Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) as Senior Digital Archivist.

He graduated from Bochum University with an MA in History and Classical Archaeology before finishing his PhD thesis in Classical Archaeology on the interior architecture of Archaic and Classical Greek temples at the Martin-Luther-University in Halle.

Jan has wide-ranging experience in Greek and Roman architecture and was involved in several survey and excavation projects in Italy, Greece, and Turkey as a site assistant, supervisor, and photographer.

He also led tutorial seminars for Classical Archaeology in Bochum and Halle and organized an international conference on sacred architecture in antiquity at Kiel University, Germany.

Jan has authored and co-authored various papers, including articles on Richard Chandler’s travels in Asia Minor, on Greek Ionian architecture as well as on small finds from Didyma. He has experience of supervising excavations, post-excavation analysis, and line-management responsibility in excavation projects.
