The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology seeks to appoint a Senior Assistant Curator in Anthropology, to start on 1 October 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are welcome from research-active anthropologists with museum experience.
The appointee will contribute to the work of an internationally-respected, dynamic research museum, in particular to the care, documentation and exhibition of the Museum's extensive world cultures collections. Alongside colleagues, he or she will help make the collections accessible to researchers, students, public audiences and communities internationally, and will be expected to supervise staff, volunteers and students, contribute to Museum administration and programmes, and to University teaching. The appointee should also anticipate making a substantial contribution to a major programme of research and engagement towards the redisplay of world cultures across the Museum.
Candidates should hold a PhD in anthropology or a related subject. Preference may be given to candidates with a research focus in Oceania or Africa. Candidates should have experience of research in a museum context, curatorial work and public engagement. Teaching experience in anthropology or a related subject, and involvement in exhibition development are highly desirable.
Applications should include a personal statement, not exceeding three A4 pages, a curriculum vitae and a list of publications. Candidates are also asked to identify one article-length piece of work, published or in press, which they would like the Appointments Committee to read.
Shortlisted candidates should anticipate making a 30 minute presentation for staff, likely to be scheduled, together with interviews, over 26/27 April 2023.
MAA and the University of Cambridge Museums are committed to inclusion and diversity within our institutions and across the sector, and we particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates as they are under-represented within the Museum and the University.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records) check, a health assessment and a security check.
The closing date for applications is 15 March 2023.
