About
Jan is the Senior Teaching and Collections Assistant in Archaeology, working mainly in the Keyser Workroom. He supports object-based teaching, Open Sessions, practical follow-ups, research visits, and access to the Archaeology collections.
Jan's academic background is in History and Classical Archaeology. He studied in Germany and completed his PhD in Classical Archaeology with a dissertation on Greek temple architecture. Before joining MAA, Jan worked in museums and archaeological research, including at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, and took part in projects in Germany, the UK, Italy, Greece, and Türkiye. This work involved fieldwork, excavation archives, collections documentation, and museum database work.
At MAA, Jan helps students and researchers locate, access, handle, document, photograph, and study objects from the collections. He also help coordinate access to material held off-site at the Centre for Material Culture and support object-based work for teaching, coursework, and research projects.
