Research Visits


The Museum is now closed to the public and to research visitors until further notice.

Under normal circumstances research access to MAA’s collections is available for visits by advance appointment only, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm, and at the discretion of museum staff. 

As a research institution, MAA is committed to providing researcher access to our collections. In order to arrange access at a mutually convenient time, it is important to contact the museum well in advance of your intended trip. While we can normally accommodate research visits of one or two days, longer visits can be extremely demanding in terms of staff time and will require special arrangements to be made.

Researchers are asked to read our Researcher Guidelines & Responsibilities in advance. Those wishing to make images of museum objects will be asked to sign an agreement, confirming they will only use these images for research purposes (including presentations, dissertations and teaching) – permission can be requested for other uses from
