Seal Hunting
Dalgety records both the Inuit and European methods of seal hunting in his journal. Paterson and other expedition members collected Inuit seal hunting tools and models, and Ritchie took photographs of the crew seal hunting during the voyage.
For the Inuit, seals provide not only food but also fat to produce lamp oil and skins to create clothing. The seal is "vitally important to the Inuit way of life" (Harrington 1981, 68).
