Volunteers are vital to the museum and there are many different ways in which you can help.
The Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology (MAA) is beginning the process of inventorying its archaeological collections to improve our documentation. We are recruiting a team of volunteers to undertake a discrete section of this project from 31 July to 25 August 2017.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in a museum career to gain valuable experience in the practical elements of collections management. For further details and for information about how to apply please visit the University of Cambridge Museums page.
The Friends of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology is central to the way in which the museum recognises the contributions made by our supporters, both financial and in other ways. More information about the Friends of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology can be found online.
Subscribing Friends are invited to attend a series of exhibition previews, lectures and special events throughout the year, central to which is the annual Von Hügel lecture and drinks reception, and these events form an extremely important element of the Friends’ activities, not only in terms of keeping existing Friends involved and attracting new supporters, but also as a means of promoting the museum to a wider audience.
MAA Friends has just under 100 members and it is our ambition to grow this number, particularly among those who live in and around Cambridge. We are now seeking a Volunteer Friends Events Organiser to help maximise the potential of existing activities and to identify opportunities for new events, in conjunction with members of the Friends Committee and museum staff. For further details and for information about how to apply please visit the University of Cambridge Museums page.
The museum’s front of house volunteers provide a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors and support the and other members of staff in supervising the exhibition galleries. In addition to dealing with enquiries from visitors, they help with the museum shop and perform various other roles.
No prior knowledge or experience is necessary but punctuality, reliability and interpersonal skills are important, as is a willingness to take responsibility for areas such as health and safety and security procedures.
Please download a role description to find out more and, if you think you might be interested in joining the team, fill in a UCM Volunteer Expression of Interest Form and return it by email to our Visitor Services Coordinator or by post to Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3DZ.
Evaluation volunteers help the Museum to find out what people think of the Museum displays, events and activities. Volunteers can help by speaking directly to visitors or by entering interview and other data.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Sarah-Jane Harknett.
