This gallery-taught, discussion based, session will introduce students to ‘indigenous’ tribal communities in India and explore their complex relationship with Britain during the empire. Using handling objects students will question colonial collection practices and look into how modern day collecting has changed. This session links in well to issues of iden
tity and empire.
Duration: 1.5 hours
Session Format: A museum teacher will lead the first 45 minutes of the session. Students will then have a chance to independently investigate the galleries and conduct their own object research.
Designed for the KS3 curriculum but suitable up to KS5
