Eye Model. 1800s.
Whipple Museum of the History of Science 5984.
The model demonstrates how the eye forms an image in the same way as a camera obscura. The two additional lenses, one concave and one convex, show the effect of long- and short-sightedness.
'...the chamber represents the eye, the hole is the pupil, the lens is the crystalline humour.'
René Descartes describing a camera obscura, 1637
