Lovibond’s Tintometer Slides
J.W. Lovibond Ltd., late 19th century. Salisbury, England.
The Whipple Museum of the History of Science 4521, T338
The tintometer was first developed to judge the quality of beer by its hue, but was soon adapted by experimental psychologists to test humans’ discriminations between subtle variations in colour. The tinted slides are finely graded so that pairs of subtly different colours can be presented simultaneously to the observer.
