Death Mask of Isaac Newton. John Michael Rysbrack. 1727.
Cambridge, England. Wren Library, Trinity College, Cambridge.
Copies of Rysbrack’s post mortem cast were distributed widely. This mask formed part of an assembly of relics and memorabilia of famous Trinity scholars. Such relics were especially venerated by Victorian scholars – they reinforced the close ‘familial’ bonds between the fellows of a College.
