Horse Brass
AD 50-100. On the Suffolk/Norfolk border near Santon Downham
Collected by Cambridge Antiquarian Society, MAA 1897.225 A-B
This bronze and enamel ornament for a horse harness were part of a hoard of bronze and iron objects found in the nineteenth century, all tightly packed into a large cauldron. Riding on horseback or being pulled in a chariot or cart are other ways of travelling quickly and powerfully through the landscape. The cart allows heavy goods to be moved more easily and a rider has an added advantage of extra height.
