The Visible Human provides a cross-sectional view of the interior of the body, composed of MRI, CT and anatomical images. The Visible Human Male data set was released by the National Library of Medicine in the United States. The sequence shown here is an axial scan of a male body from top to bottom. The body shown is that of Joseph Paul Jernigan, a United States convict sentenced to death in Texas for murder. Prompted by a prison Chaplain, prior to execution he agreed to donate his body for medical research.
