Alana Jelinek (PhD) is currently an artist and senior researcher on the ‘Pacific Presences’ European Research Council funded project, under Principal Investigator, Prof Nicholas Thomas (2013-2018). She is also a Research Associate with Volkenkunde, Leiden, where much the research with people and objects from Papua takes place.
Her research with the Museum began with an Arts and Humanities Research Council Fellow in Performing and Creative Arts 2009 – 2014, which concentrated on the relationship between the collection, the collector and the collected. This was explored through exhibitions and events culminating in the publication of ‘The Fork’s Tale, as Narrated By Itself’ (LemonMelon 2013 and available in the MAA shop) and ‘This is Not Art: Activism and Other Not-Art’ (IB Tauris 2013).
